Wishcasting Wednesday: Explore

What dream do you wish to explore?

This is the question for the week over at Jamie Ridler’s blog for Wishcasting Wednesday. Back in September, on one of my very first Wishcasting Wednesdays, I expressed a desire to attend the fall session of Squam Art Workshops this year. At the time I was aware of the costs involved, but not the deadlines. Next month I make my final payment on credit card debts I’ve been carrying for years, and I can finally consider little luxuries again. Big ones, though? Still tough. Because even though I will have a little more fun money, I still don’t have access to credit. Most folks take for granted that they can put a big purchase on their credit cards, that if an emergency happens and their car is towed or their cat falls ill, they’re covered. I don’t have that.

Yesterday the workshop information was posted on the Squam Art website. I’ve already filled out my registration form, but knowing the classes I really want will fill quickly, now I am tasked with finding the funds for February 1st’s deposit, and then wondering how on earth I am going to come up with the difference before April 5th. I can do my taxes on February 1st, but won’t get my refund for at least a week or two. I’m pretty resourceful, but I already know some of this might at the very least involve borrowing money for a short period of time .. if anyone has any input on some genius money-making scheme (bake sale? thievery? real estate?) I’d love to hear it. I’m willing to explore new ways to make money to achieve my wants and needs in 2010!

My big dream and wish is to find a way to pull off Squam (financially) this year!!

Spread the Joy!

As sara wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.
Attend a Squam retreat is also a wish I have… I’m sure that if you stay positive and with some help and determination, you’ll find the financial resources needed. (btw, I also takes any advice, because it’s also what blocks me to achieve some dreams like this one)
    Don’t give up.

hmm…one thought i have is write a mindful, heartfelt, personal letter to all your friends and family. let them know your intentions of why you want to go to this retreat…and see if you can create some sort of “fundraiser” scenario…like a trade of some kind. if you family/friends contribute a small amount of money for your journey, you’ll make them a piece of art in return OR…donate the money to a nonprofit that provides are for kids (when you have it) or you’ll pay them back… anyway…you sound determined and i love that you are trying to find creative ways to make it happen. congrats to you on paying off your credit cards. now that is some much needed SPACE coming your way!!

As Sara wishes for herself, so I wholeheartedly wish for her also.

Mention it in your Etsy shop, or, if you don’t want to do that, Tweet reminders about said shop. You may be able to fund some of it that way.

as you wish, I wish for you as well. It is terrible for money to get in the way, I know you will find a way over that challenge and know that the hard work will make the workshop even better. I tell myself over and over “Good things take time, trust the process”

Have a sale at your etsy shop-twitter about it. Or maybe a garage sale? Babysit or dogsit for a friend. Clean someone’s house. Also look under the couch cushions and in all of your handbags. Change adds up. Win the lotto & share it with moi’
Wishing you abundance and prosperity :)

I’m positive the Universe will provide, just have faith (and take whatever steps you deem necessary :) !).
Waow, the Squam retreat sounds wonderful, I wish I wasn’t on the wrong side of the ocean (and had some money as well :p).

You are absolutely right; most people do not know what it is like to live without credit. We live in an instant gratification age. I too do not have credit and I have to save for every extravagance I want. There is a good feeling though to knowing, we don’t owe anything to anyone and we paid for what we have. Somehow the universe surprises us when we really want something or need something. I hope that happens for you and you will be able to attend the Squam retreat. As Sara wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.

    Hey Sara,

The Squam Art WS is close to my heart. I love NH, went to camp there as a girl and ran across Squam about a year ago. Thank you for the reminder! Barbara Winter says in one of her books to find things you can make money doing for $100 a day. It’s not that much money but if you did it say 10 times or however much the workshop costs it would work!

They say baby steps for change, why not try it for making mula. I’m going to check out the site. Thx.

As Sara wishes, so I wish for you her also. I don’t have any additional good money-raising suggestions to add and I don’t know anything about Squam (I’ll check your link later) but do they have any scholarship opportunities and/or volunteer jobs where you work for a few hours a day while there and get a reduced rate perhaps?

    Love your blog!

    {if you see this twice, I guess it’s b/c I goofed! my first comment disapeared!}

Even though I’ve turned into a Wishcasting Wednesday Slacker super quickly, I still want to say…

As Sara wishes for herself, I whole heartedly wish for her as well!

Banishing debt is no small accomplishment, and it’s something to be proud of! I’ve never heard of Squam either, but it sounds like something really close to your heart. I pray the Universe opens the doors necessary to get you there! Because you totally deserve the joy it brings you =)
