Happy Winter Solstice!

Tonight we see the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. As I learn to embrace the new and ancient parts of myself, I go looking for the Yule stories, the Holly King and the Oak King, the science behind the solstices. And I dig up from my depths that sense I have always had, that the darkest hour truly comes before the dawn, and there is always light on the other side. Today I came across some wonderful posts inspired by the Solstice. Silky Hart gives us words of wisdom from Gary Zukav on the Solstice. Bridget talks about Rhiannon’s seven dark years and the dark side of gratitude. Owning Pink serves up a gorgeous Yule ritual. Earlier this month Nectar and Light re-embraced the traditions of Solstices past. And how excited do you think it was to discover I won Suzie Ridler’s cauldron necklace?

So tonight I shall light some candles, sip something warm and listen with all my senses to Jen Lee’s Solstice: Stories of the Light in the Dark followed by Blackmore’s Night doing “Mid Winter’s Night”. What will you do to celebrate Solstice?

wish i had seen these yesterday. i’m new to actually slowing down to celebrate solstice, usually acknowledging it internally and keep running with all the falalalala to celebrate a holiday i do not embrace. at least i’ll be prepared for next year. thank you.
