the woodsy magic

What luxury do you wish for?
In pondering the question, I quickly realized that my form of luxury is quite different from most people’s. Yes, I’d like money, that is hardly original. What I’d like money for is for the chance to have my own house somewhere close to nature, and to be able to work for myself, structure my own hours and days, and have a yard with a garden and room for a dog to run (I’m sure my two cats would love that).
But when I think “luxury”, I think of places where the flowers grow wild and unfettered, and where animals roam, where trees flourish and everything is green and lush for miles. To me, this is luxury, because I live in the city, and although my apartment is nestled up against a flowing river amongst a smattering of trees whose canopy I get to look out onto when I’m eating breakfast in my kitchen, it just takes a quick look to the left to find garbage, potholes, skyscrapers and snarled traffic. It is hard to separate the two worlds that live together here.
Luxury is a nighttime with windows open, just hearing crickets, and awakening only to the sound of birds. Luxury is reading on the front porch in the gentle breeze, walking barefoot in the grass, stepping out into the yard in my PJs, sleeping under the stars. I wish for myself more of these experiences, more of this feeling, and to one day have a little house among trees, or perhaps nestled at the base of a mountain or near the sea.
Earlier this year I heard about an awesome workshop called Squam Art Workshop, or SAW, which takes place a little over an hour from where I live, yet financial concerns prevented me from doing more than consider it for just a moment. I recently went searching for blog posts and pictures from this September’s workshop and I found the above photo from a gorgeous blog post about Squam by Denise Lynnette Andrade (Boho Photography). It was so evocative of the type of luxury I’m talking about — I love the greenery mixed with the fashionista scarf and groovy shoes. My wish is that next year I can attend the September SAW.
Wishing you green days, starry nights and a life full of barefoot moments. <3

As Sara wishes for herself, so I wish for her! And maybe I’ll see you at SAW in September!
Having lived in both the city and the country…both have their appeals…and the best of any world would be able to flit back and forth between them both at will.
As Sara wishes for herself, so I lovingly and with intention wish for her also!
