Wow, I’m excited! I’ve just received my first blogging award since hanging out my shingle here in cyberspace (with my “scratch” blog because I couldn’t make my intended blog “pretty enough” quickly enough for my taste and I was tired of sitting on the sidelines while others wished aways their Wednesdays.. :) What a lovely award to win, too.. a Beautiful Blogger award! Bestowed upon me kindly by Lis of Dandelion Seeds and Dreams who has a lovely, introspective. heart-opening blog herself! Thank you so much Lisa, this is a high compliment!

I’m really bad with rules. Really. You know those forwards that say forward this now to everyone you’ve ever met or your dog will die? Yes, that’s why I hate rules. So I am picking some favorites here because I want these bloggers to know their blogs ARE indeed beautiful.. and that there are no strings attached. I suspect some of you will follow the rules (like I did despite my rebelliousness) and hence keep this blog award going. I think that should be enough! No obligations, just accept my love!

Okay, so seven things about me:
1. I can’t swim. I failed swimming lessons multiple times as a kid and have a fear of being underwater.
2. Despite #1, I want to learn how to surf (obviously I’ll need to learn to swim first, I’m not crazy!)
3. I won the spelling bee for my school in 6th grade, and went to regionals. I was so terrified that I drew a blank when the gave me the word “wheeze”. I think I spelled it “ouise”!
4. My first apartment on my own was across the alley from the house my mother was raised in (and it is believed that my grandfather, a contractor, built it). It had long since changed hands, and I actually inquired about an apartment in it, but the landlord would not accept cats.
5. My childhood nickname was Wompy.
6. I have some Native American (Canadian, really) blood running through my veins, Mi’kmaq, from my paternal grandfather’s side.
7. I am a total information junkie, and I always fall for the lure of free e-books, reports etc. I also keep all emails from my family and my best friend and have some old ones printed out and going back to 1998.

PS. I can’t swim either. I had a small accident in a friends pool when I was six and nearly drowned. Yet in high school I was obsessed with SURFING (though I’d never tried!) to the point where my nickname was Gidget. Honestly, you and I had to have been related in a past life or something haha!! My love of surf music (the old stuff..Dick Dale, The Surfaris, The Ventures…) knows no bounds!

I too share your thing about water and not being able to swim as well as the spelling! I went to a UIL spelling competition in 6th grade and choked on the word “iron” which I spelled “iorn.”
