BodyWisdom: Let It Begin With Me

Where do you wish to make a difference?

This is the question for the week over at Jamie Ridler’s blog for Wishcasting Wednesday.
****

As usual, I let the question search for its own answers within myself as I went about my day. And when I would stop to think, ‘Yes, where would I like to make a difference?’ a series of adages and lines from songs would tumble out on cue. ‘Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me’ was one. Then there was Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’. Then Gandhi’s words followed: ‘We must be the change we wish to see in the world.’ I believe all these to be deeply, irrevocably true, and that is largely why my word for 2010 is Self-Love. It’s that sense I can only be of true service once I have attended to my own wounds, my own healing. It was no surprise to find that I wasn’t the only one with these thoughts, as Lexi of Ellecubed so eloquently expressed in her post today.

This weekend I bought a used copy of M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water at a video store closeout sale. I had seen it before, but not remembering details, just had that sense that I had liked the message that we all have a purpose. In the film, not everyone’s purpose is obvious. It’s hard to tell the story without giving too much away, but I’ll say that the Healer turns out to truly Heal (with a capital H!) when he speaks aloud his buried Truth. It wells up from  a place of incredible pain and love, and the words spoken Heal him, and by extension, everyone around him, including the one who came to him for healing. I realized that when I speak from a place of great and sometimes painful Truth, it has a stronger resonance with people, like sounding a word that echoes back inside a deep canyon. I am healed for the telling; and I think others can be brought into that healing as well, if they are moved to be or willing to be.

So, in regards to this wish, I have some secret projects in the wings, projects for which I am the ultimate guinea pig and I have to live and test and prove these ideas and processes before I can share them with the world.  But one day I hope I can help people to make friends with their bodies again, on many levels: in terms of healing issues with food, reclaiming our own empowerment in finding the best health care team, and other levels of care that we need to bring to our bodies, these bodies which carry all the wisdom we need to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

This is written so beautifully and eloquently Sara. I think what you said is so true, when we speak from our deepest truest place, it resonates more with people. As Sara wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.

PS Your post has really encouraged me to watch Lady in the Water.

I love this. Loving our bodies is so difficult and complicated. May your words inspire other women to honor their physical selves. As you wish for yourself, I wish for you as well.
